Thus was exactly what I feared when the war began, namely that everyone would blame the Jews if everything didn’t go perfectly and quickly. And, it’s playing out exactly that way (a narrative that, mind you, the despicable New York Times is always happy to put out there).

Again, I don't blame the article. It reported on what happened. It was accurately titled "How Trump Took The US To War With Iran."

Ian Mark Sirota's avatar

But, you can be sure that if there was a way to blame Israel or Jews in general, or even to slant the story against Israel, the NYT would do it.

Yes, did you see how they white washed and cheered about MAMDANI at the New York City SED ER wouldn’t mention antisemitism , theyjust foment it

Yup

Your last two posts have truly captured how I feel. Completely--down to the "we will outlive them." Thank you.

Elissa, my friend, don't waste your very precious energy dissecting the person impersonating a president. He changes and twists everything constantly. It could drive one mad to try to make sense where there is no sense. Just, yes, focus on Jews and our solidarity and love for each other.

Find and appreciate allies and keep good company with Jews who get you. Do not waste energy fighting what cannot be fought or at least practice Jew-Bu "discernment."

Fuck the assholes by not giving them airtime. I realize I am telling a self-possessed badass to take care of herself. I am not suggesting hanging out and eating bon-bons, but maybe once in while?!

Rhonda Wainshilbaum's avatar

I appreciate our allies, like you!

Rhonda, notice I wrote, "focus on Jews and OUR solidarity and love for each other." I am doing as instructed by Judaism teacher/rabbi and doing the "we" rather than the "they" in my conversion process, but perhaps I will always be an ally in a sense as well. I can proudly wear both hats!

Rhonda Wainshilbaum's avatar

Excuse me you’re right ! and now that you’re one of us do we have any other allies?

JM's avatar

Ha, ha. There may be one or two other allies. Seriously, I am still all about getting allies on board!! I just incorporated antisemitism awareness into my diversity training curriculum for new staff at work. We all do our bit, no?

Once again, Elissa you nailed it.

I am beyond reacting but bears repeating “fuck absolutely everyone” As far as the NY times I cancelled my subscription sometime after Oct. 7.

I had coffee this afternoon with a local politician who happens to be Jewish. When I brought the usual Jews control the world, the media , the banks, etc...I gave my usual response that we're doing a terrible job and ought to be fired. His response was superior to mine. He said " If Jews controlled the world there would be peace."

Mic Drop...feel free to use.

Love it!!! I usually say something like “would I be working here if I owned a bank?!”

Ed Brown's avatar

Yours is great too. I think my local friendly Jewish politico is just a little more encompassing...

I was thinking today if AI eliminates middle class jobs and the rich just get richer, everyone will blame the Jews.

perhaps I am one of the few who believe that Donald Trump has agency (others float dementia or some other malady to blame for his lack of intelligent reasoning--which I believe he knowingly is playing that up to make him less accountable, but I digress) and he made a choice.

But we don't wanna talk about that and we create some bullshit narratives around being tricked or pressured. He fucking chose this. He wasn't dragged; he wasn't tricked; he made a fucking decision.

The NYT article was truly unnecessary, as it does make things worse. I have to admit that I listened to the whole article (I received a gift link). I don’t understand why MBS’s influence to start the war is not covered extensively as well. The big difference, in the public’s perception, is that Bibi was in the situation room, where foreign leaders usually are not invited, and that he actually made a “pitch” for war, as if he were presenting a new business!

Elissa Wald's avatar

I don't blame the article though. The title is accurate and I'm sure the reports are too. Trump’s decisions are 100% on him.

Passidrole's avatar

Of course. And this is not the end of it :(

Yes, I had the exact same thought today when I saw the New York Times article. Remember a few years ago they had a terribly antisemitic cartoon with BB as a dog dragging Trump along. I am reading Sarah Hurwitz’s book entitled “as a Jew”. In context of history this makes perfect sense. The entire world has been indoctrinated to hate us for generations. A miracle is that we are surviving against all odds.I highly recommend the book even though it is a bit depressing. The more they hate us the stronger we get, the more they hate us the stronger we get just repeat that to yourself. Love you.

Elissa Wald's avatar

I not only read and loved the book but it was a Never Alone Book Club pick and Sarah joined us for a conversation! She's become a cherished friend. I absolutely love her.

Moderation's avatar

Elissa how does one join the book club?

Elissa Wald's avatar

Go to the Never Alone Book Club page on Facebook and answer the membership questions! Thanks so much for asking.

Sending you love and support. Damn everyone who's blaming the Jewish people for this. What the hell? I can't even.
