I’m an independent now, but I find that Republicans are a lot more willing to have conversations that don’t start with moral condemnations, and I’m hopeful that there is room in their tent for old school Dems.
I think that a lot of us see the Democrats as heading in the same direction as the Labour Party in the UK, or the NDP in Canada. It’s a really ominous and frightening trend.
The progressives have turned the Democrats in the Antizionist Socialist Party, thinking like the National Socialist Party that antisemitism will win them votes. Let’s help them understand the error of their shitty ways.

I think that it is because they ARE antisemitic and the Jews in the leadership are too cowardly to speak up lest they lose their positions of power and access to personal enrichment.
I can't count how many times I've seen leftists say that the decimation of usaid is a form of genocide. (I'm not sure I agree, just on a technical level, but it's definitely a crime against humanity and just as awful as genocide). If you haven't seen lefties saying that... I'm afraid I'm not a regular reader of this substack - a friend sent me a link to this article. I'm very, VERY critical of Israel, and I think it's for the best that the Democratic party's support of Israel is diminishing, so my guess is if I was a regular reader we'd disagree a lot.

I noticed the replies to the hateful comments all seem to distance and de-center Israel and the Israeli government, and left libelous accusations against Israel unanswered. Since Oct 7, large majorities of Israelis across the political spectrum supported Israel's actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran (in fact, many criticized pauses and restraint shown at times by Netanyahu's govt). The decades-long attempts by liberal Jews to abandon Zionism and the centrality (and absolute necessity) of Israel has poisoned at least two generations of Diaspora Jews and won zero favoribility points within their own political tribe. The crocodile will eat them, too.
I'm gonna whatabout. Because in this case it highlights the hypocrisy and how deeply the Palestinians have embedded themselves into the Left's agenda, dominating discourse and inflating focus on their "injustice", while at the same time whitewashing terrorism, use of rape as a weapon of war and barbaric slaughter defenseless civilian victims of all ages as an expression of fighting for freedom.
When Germany was defeated in WWII and the proportions of the Holocaust and other atrocities came to light, was the legitimacy of Germany as a state ever in question? Were Germans worldwide repudiated, canceled and assaulted just for being Germans? Instead, the US initiated the Marshall Plan and gave asylum to Nazis to participate in their ballistic and nuclear programs.
When the atrocities and genocide of Bosnian Muslims by Serbians came to light during the Baltic civil war - and even when Milosevic was convicted of genocide - why was the establishment and independence of Serbia not rejected? Why was Serbia universally welcomed into the international community?
So, why is Israel the only case of a state itself being vilified and its existence as a state questioned? Not the government who are responsible and make the decisions - as opposed to civilians who spent two and a half years protesting the said government in their hundreds of thousands (myself included) - but all Israelis and all Jews, worldwide? (P.S. How many Palestinians protested against Hamas's atrocities)?
If The IDF had not eventually repulsed Hamas on October 7-8, at what point would Hamas have stopped murdering, raping mutilating and kidnapping Jewish Israelis of their own accord? Would the Palestinians then have been accused of genocide and made lepers throughout the world? I'm guessing no. Hypocrisy, much? The most important element of genocide, is intent. Can they really say that Hamas as the elected leadership of Palestinians in Gaza do not have genocidal intent?
If all the Anti Zionists got their wet dream and Israel as a Jewish state ceased to be, what would be the fate of the 7 million Jews living in Israel? Because, if you say that they deserve what was coming, then by the very same token, how can they express outrage against what the Palestinians are going through in this war? Deciding what is justice and what is genocide, is in the eyes of who is seen as the injured party. And after 1200 Jewish Israelis were massacred *before they were stopped* by Palestinians - even some civilians who piggy-backed on Hamas's assault - what Israel did (OF WHICH I PERSONALLY DO NOT APPROVE AND THINK WAS OVERKILL) is actually no different.

I attended the No Kings rally and March in downtown Chicago in March. Surprisingly, there were fewer Palestinian-themed signs than I was expecting. Maybe 1-2% of the total. I think it’s important to be cognizant of the relative numbers of these folks in real life, and not just who is the loudest and most persistent online.

After 50 years I am no longer a member of the Democratic Party. Too disturbing to have them count me in.
