This is why I firmly believe that the Democratic Party must, after the midterms (it's not ideal but we're in the middle of such a mess) pull the plug on the DSA and push them out of the "tent."

The DSA has to stand on their own feet, sink or swim on their own terms with their own money etc. as their own party.

All the Democratic Party leaders have to do is share the DSA's own agenda with Democratic voters and I'm sure only the most leftist of the bunch, who haven't voted Dems really anyway, will be unhappy about it.

I know that a lot of people are starting to realize that the DSA Is absolutely terrible and they are about to steamroll the Democratic Party and do to the dems what MAGA did to the Republicans. This country won't survive that.

Good analysis, Elissa. I just listened to Julie Roginsky discuss many of the issues you bring up with Haile Sofer. Well worth the half hour!

As always, what you write is the most valuable thing I read that day.

Elissa, you’re correct on many counts, but you’re wrong about Mamdummy…

He is a virtual rep of Hamas as this link to one the Muslim Brotherhood’s US organizations shows.

He was a founder of SJP on this campus, àn MB and its little brother, Hamss…

Hating Jews is his primary emotion!

Mamdani is ugly inside and out. His smile shows anger and ridicule. He is an incompetent buffoon who supports terrorism and hatred against Jews, but what's not to love?!?

P.S. I got notice that Altkhatib's book is on the way. Thanks for providing the link to purchase, Elissa!

Looking at the DSA websites (there isn’t just one) I’m struck by a few things. One is that there is an explicit focus on not such being a social democracy but a socialist state. Food production and sales is state owned and run. Two, it reminds me of something I might have generated in high school- very black and white. For example, abolish police and mass incarceration. I would love to abolish mass incarceration. I would love to redesign the police. There is no concept of redesign. Four- there are some good assessments and goals mixed into some truly terrible ideas. For example universal health care and housing is in my view a good ideas. Five- Free Palestinian is central to the DSA. Why central? It is like a red flag when one is dating.

Government funded grocery stores are an insanely bad idea. And recently he published a list of what he says are second homes in NYC which are first and only homes for a lot of people. Asking for tons of tax money that these people don’t owe and a 3 week window to ‘prove’ that their homes aren’t second homes. Everything than comes from tnst son of colonists of Uganda is garbage.

Wow. I just went to the DSA Workers Deserve More page. It's really wild. Apparently we'll soon all enjoy our jobs and be able to take days off (even though we won't need them as badly because we love our jobs) and no one will have mortgages and we'll all live happily ever after, and we'll manage all this happiness and wealth without ever having to exploit a single worker. Interesting that they are against embargoes and sanctions given their stand on boycotts.
