I am so, so happy to read this—the stories at my end have a much less happy ending. 🙁

Such a wonderful story--and I really think that anybody who wants to make a point can learn so much from the resolution not to embarrass the other person. Ignorance and confusion can be shifted. Thank you for doing this and for sharing it with us.

This is just wonderful. I was so impressed with the second post about this situation and how you handled it, and now this! Just beautiful. What a gift you are.

Tears, what tears?? It's allergies, I swear!

Kol hakavod, Elissa. Seriously, I'm on a campus and see how much pain is being caused simply by people who don't know any of the history or politics. Would that there were more like you who take the time and compassion. Thank you!

Kudos for your crucial role in creating the space for these young women to repair their relationship and clear up the ugly lies about Israel. It's a wonderful thing!

It is a heartwarming story but I am not sure it offers us much hope for changing the minds of antisemites. I hate to be pessimistic but as a child, I was surrounded by people who loved individual Jews but hated Jews as a collective. If the worst came to pass, these people would turn against their Jewish friends, neighbors and even family members, as many did in the Holocaust. I wish I could believe that D really changed her mind about Israel and Jews rather than simply patched up her relationship with one Jew. I don’t know if I do.

How wonderful. You did a great thing, Elissa. If you can, will you keep us updated on how things go for the two of them back on campus? I imagine once they are back in the thick of it with the activist roommate it will become a little more challenging. Here's hoping they can make it work!
