Tomorrow!
Hey, beloved tribe.
My apologies is you’ve already seen and responded to this message via JUDITH magazine. If that’s you, no further action is needed! If you’re seeing this for the first time, please read on for a message I try to reiterate intermittently:
Most of us are all too aware of the many different ways American Jews have been ostracized and marginalized within the world of U.S. publishing. This has been widely documented in a range of serious, non-Jewish publications and it’s not something any of us are imagining.
In order to mount a fierce fight against this trend, I started the Never Alone Book Club, which exists mostly on Facebook. The central idea was — and remains — that we are millions strong in the U.S., we are people of the book, and there is no earthly reason we can’t organize and come together to send Jewish writers to the NYT bestseller list every single month.
In fact, JUDITH was started because I realized I could support — at the very most — only a dozen Jewish writers in this way a year. I wanted a place to promote all the others, and that’s how JUDITH was born.
But the Never Alone Book Club remains desperately important to me.
At the end of the day, publishing is a business, as money-driven as any other, and never more so than now. If Jewish books are continually on the NYT bestseller list — which we absolutely have the collective power to accomplish — then we will very soon be sought after once again.
But we have to make it happen. So I very much hope that if you haven’t already, you will go to Facebook, join the Never Alone Book Club there, click on the event tab, and RSVP to attend tomorrow’s conversation with Sarah Hurwitz, in which we’ll be talking about her new memoir As A Jew: Reclaiming Our Story From Those Who Blame, Shame And Try To Erase Us.
The zoom link is HERE.
The event will take place at 5:30 pm Pacific time, 8:30 pm Eastern.
It will only be an hour long. You need not have finished or even begun the book to join and listen!
Please join the club, please come to the event, please buy the book if you’re able, and please invite your Jewish friends.
One final thing: if you are NOT on Facebook, but you ARE planning to come (or try to come), and you HAVEN’T responded to the same poll via JUDITH, please RSVP here:
I really hope to see you there.
Much love,
Elissa

If you are ok with a gentile attending, I will do my best to be there. It is at 2.30 am my time so I cannot promise. More ways to counteract hate and lies are always useful. The book is on my to buy list
I will be in a family conference till 6pm. If it is not disruptive to join for the second half I most likely will.
